Title: Honor Among Friends
Author: Peter C. Beaulieu, Troop50 Eagle scout.

Last night I had the honor of attending a kind of going away party in celebration of an old friend of mine. I have not seen this man in a while nor several of the guests. It was not that either of us went anywhere we just sort stopped talking on a regular basis. Anyway, this friend of mine has joined the Air force to be a pilot and his slot opened up for next week. He is an excellent pilot so now he will serve his country doing what he loves to do. He is an Engineer so he will also serve as an officer when he completes his training.

I have known this man since he was 12 and joined the Boy Scout troop that I was apart of. We have hiked, camped, canoed, rappelled, spelunked, and have shared many adventures of trust, friendship, and brotherhood. We basically grew up together spending at least one day a week and several weeks a year bonding.

Last night when I was watching a video that another friend had put together I saw the memories and the flashes of times gone by and still felt that pull that I would still be their if he ever called me. He has closer friends and friends he as known longer, but there is still a bond between us.

Each friend in our lives has a special bond, a chord if you will that attaches us to another. They are a piece of our ancestry. They may not be of our direct family lineage, but they help to shape who we are and what we have become. When you develop friends over a span of many years that bond is secured deep. With that lies a trust and an honor that does not get broken. It is the honor among friends.

I wish my friend well as he does his duty to his country and to his self. I know that adventures in his life will continue and the man I know today, grown from the child I knew before, will only become truly what he meant to be.

Walk along the dusty trail,

Seek out the guidance new,

Journey on my friend and rest assured,

We all still care for you.

Harness in your self,

The spirit deep inside,

Reach out and feel the connect dreams,

And know that you are one.

Your dreams my come with choices,

Starting fresh and new,

Just do your best and give your all,

We will always be proud of you.
